We think we offer something unique & very special at Treehoppers - a chance for children to have some amazing outdoor experiences in a wonderful setting. In our ‘school without walls’ we operate with very high adult/child ratios - at least 1:4 and all our staff are highly qualified. Having high adult/child ratios & highly qualified & experienced staff is integral to what we do and to the forest school ethos. This does however mean that our running costs are high.

Details of our fees are:

● We ask for a £30 enrollment/registration fee. If your child takes up a place, this will be used to provide them with a yellow Treehoppers long sleeved t-shirt, sweatshirt and named bag tag.

● Our hourly rate is £6.00.This fee will include snacks, drinks & activities provided by qualified Forest School Leaders and external providers e.g. music, yoga and cooking. It will also include most trips & outings (though we may need to ask for an additional contribution depending on where we are going).

● A 3 hour session (morning 9-12 or afternoon 12-3) will cost £18 and a full 6 hour day from 9am -3pm will cost £36 per session.

● An Early Bird session will be available from 8.30- 9 at a cost of £3.50. A later pick up of 3.30 is also possible for an additional fee of £3.50

All children aged 3 & 4 are entitled to 15 hours of funded childcare in the term after they turn 3 (see dates below the video to check dates). Some children are also entitled to up to 30 hours or extended funding too. This funding is only available for 38 weeks of the year on a term time basis only. Treehoppers is open for 46 weeks and so if you are entitled to funding we will ‘stretch’ the funding - we can provide an estimate of costs.

You may be aware of the issues that are facing early years settings, particularly since the introduction of the 30 hours ‘free childcare’. Please take a few minutes to watch the video below which explains the challenges facing the sector. It was made a few years ago now, since then funding rates have stayed the same while costs have risen (e.g. wages, pensions etc). The current rate that West Sussex County Council pay providers is £4.42, which means that for us like many other nurseries there is a big gap between what we receive and what our costs are.

To stay sustainable and not join one of the very many amazing early years settings who have had to close due to funding shortfalls we have had to introduce some restrictions to the use of the funded hours.

  • Funded hours can only be used between 9 and 11.30am & 12.30-3pm subject to availability.

  • If you would like your child to attend for a full day, or for earlier drop off/later collection a charge will be made as per the rates above.

  • We charge for what is termed ‘additional services & consumables’. The Early Years Funding (known as FE) is not intended to cover the costs of things like meals/snacks, consumables, additional hours, services or additional activities. In order to provide a high quality service if you are using your funded hours Treehoppers will charge for these additional services. This charge will be £3 for a half day session (9-12) and £6 for the full day session (9-3).

Therefore if your child is entitled to Early Years Funding it means they can attend our unique setting for 3 hours a day for £6 and 6 hours a day for £12 .

We can offer a limited number of places to families who would like to access funded hours only on a term time only basis and pay no additional extra charges. Please contact us for more details.

When is YOUR child eligible for universal fUNDED HOURS?

  • 1 April and 31 August - will become eligible for a place from 1 September following their third birthday

You may also be entitled to 30 hours extended funding and tax free childcare. We would encourage you to check if you are eligible for 30 hours childcare even if you are not intending to use all these hours. If you are eligible you will then be able to use some of these ‘spare’ hours to cover the additional weeks that Treehoppers are open and minimise your childcare costs.
