Last week saw the launch of our ‘Tiny Treehoppers’ weekly parent & toddler group and our monthly group for Childminders. We were delighted at how many families came along to join us in the woods. The mud kitchen was VERY popular, we had the paints out, the magnifying glasses & pots for bug hunting, stories, bubbles & parachute games on the field. As we had also had quite a bit of rain there were some great puddles for splashing in at the car park too!
Outdoor play is so beneficial for children and Forest School helps them build their physical, social and cognitive skills - here they can make us much mess as they like and as much noise too since there is plenty of space for them to run off steam. Let them do the messy, muddy stuff with us - just remember to bring waterproofs or all in ones (or a change of clothes) for them to change into afterwards. If you have a big blue Ikea bag at home, this is great to keep in the car to stick everything in!
If you aren't sure about whether your little one will enjoy coming to an outdoor nursery and want to try it out beforehand this is a good way to find out more about us. The groups are run on the same site as Treehoppers (our Kindergarten children de-camp to another area of woodland for the morning) and it’s great fun. Or you might just want to spend some time in the woods and encourage your child’s love of nature, either way it will be an hour and a half well spent. Adults can enjoy spending some time with like minded parents and have a chat over a cuppa! We encourage families to come regularly if you can to give your children the chance to make friends and become familiar with the group.
At the moment we have teamed up with Mid Sussex Family Grapevine magazine to offer a competition to win 6 free weeks at our Tiny Treehopper group. Head over to their Facebook page for more details but be quick as the competition ends on the 15th February!
